Jerry Hill was a Phoenix police officer before becoming a MCSO deputy in 1953. He resigned in 1976 as a Lieutenant and was elected sheriff the same year. He built the Towers Jail and the Bell/Dysart Substation and jail as well as starting the construction on the Madison Street Jail. He also established a psychiatric unit in the jails.
Jerry Hill reorganized office volunteer services and increased the participation of the posse and reserves in supplemental support. The Office volunteer services under Sheriff Hill brought national recognition to the Sheriff’s Posse. President Ronald Regan visited the Sun City Posse headquarters during Sheriff Hill’s term.
